When grief has nowhere to go, it needs a place to be carried with care. Grief to Reefs™ creates that space.
Grief to Reefs™ is our flagship program connecting grief education, ocean conservation awareness, and coral reef education for families, youth, and communities navigating loss. It was born from a simple belief that love does not end with loss, and that grief can become something purposeful, something that gives back to the ocean and the world our loved ones cherished.
Through workshops, community gatherings, and education, we help families of all ages translate love and loss into purpose and stewardship action for our oceans and coral reefs. Participants explore the significance of coral reef ecosystems, the connection between personal loss and ecological grief, and ocean-aligned ways to carry loved ones forward.
Grief to Reefs™ programs, workshops, and events are open to all. No family will ever be turned away due to inability to pay.
What the program includes:

Grief education workshops for adults, families, and youth, informed by continuing bonds theory and ecological grief awareness

Ocean conservation awareness and coral reef education for all ages, from children to adults

Community remembrance gatherings that honor loved ones in any setting, with a coastal atmosphere we bring to you

Education about reef memorials and ocean-aligned remembrance options so families can make informed choices together

Stewardship actions the whole family can take in honor of loved ones

When funding allows, criteria-based memorial support awards to help eligible families explore ocean-aligned remembrance options through approved providers
Grief to Reefs™ is for anyone who is grieving, whether the loss was recent or years ago. Anyone whose loved one had a connection to the ocean. Anyone looking for a way to carry their loved one's memory forward in a way that gives back.
You do not need any background in ocean science or conservation. You just need to want something meaningful for the person you have lost. There is a place for you here.

Become a ReefChangemaker™
A ReefChangemaker™ is someone who channels grief and remembrance into advocacy for our oceans and coral reefs, carrying the memory of a loved one forward through education, awareness, and community action.
ReefChangemakers™ is our community education program for those who feel called to carry something forward. Families and communities become advocates for ocean conservation and coral reef awareness through grief, remembrance, and the ocean. Participants earn an official ReefChangemakers™ badge upon completion.
