At Blueprint Ocean Legacy (BOL), we believe grief can be directed into powerful action. We are a grief-informed ocean conservation nonprofit based in Jacksonville, Florida, dedicated to helping families turn loss into legacy through ocean-based memorials and marine restoration efforts.
As we expand our efforts, we are actively seeking mission-aligned partners to help us serve grieving families and protect marine ecosystems. This article outlines our partnership goals, how organizations can get involved, and why BOL is uniquely positioned at the intersection of grief, legacy, healing, and ocean conservation.
“Continuing Bonds” A Grief Theory Framework
We honor the theory of continuing bonds that families carry with their loved ones. Rather than encouraging detachment or “closure,” this model of grief recognizes that the relationship doesn’t end with death, it transforms.
By creating ocean-based memorials, families are empowered to maintain a meaningful connection to their loved ones through a living legacy that gives back to the planet. These memorials become not just resting places, but sites of remembrance, reflection, and ecological renewal.
This approach mirrors a deeper truth found in grief theory: healing often comes not from letting go, but from finding new ways to hold on.

From reef memorial providers and hospice organizations to grief centers and ocean foundations, we recognize that no one heals or restores alone. We are inviting trusted partners to join us in creating a supportive ecosystem that:

Types of Partnerships We Are Exploring
We have identified several ways mission-aligned partners can collaborate with BOL:
1. Referral Collaborations
We are currently seeking an official reef memorial provider to establish affiliate and referral pathways. This will allow us to refer families seeking eco-conscious memorials directly to a trusted provider whose values align with our own. Ideal partners are certified by the Green Burial Council or demonstrate clear environmental commitments.
2. Educational Partnerships
We aim to co-develop grief-informed and ocean conservation education content for the families we serve, as well as the broader public. From workshops and annual summits to information sharing and downloadable resources, we envision collaborative content that empowers people to make informed legacy decisions in healing and environmental stewardship.
3. Co-Branded Community Campaigns
Grief is universal and so is the ocean. We are interested in co-hosting memorial events, grief-to-reef campaigns, or coastal cleanups, any gathering that honors loved ones while educating local communities on the current state of our ocean ecosystems and the urgent need for healing. Together, we can raise awareness and spark action through shared visibility and outreach.

BOL is headquartered in Jacksonville, near some of the nation’s most active memorial projects and home to vibrant marine conservation efforts. This location enables us to support families across the southeastern U.S. while engaging with reef providers and coastal communities on the frontlines of both grief and restoration.
